Those of you who have known me for a while know that I've been talking about getting a dryer as part of my baby-prep for years. Well, it's happened. Here is our first picture, complete with the 1st load of dried laundry nicely folded on top. I feel like a proud mom showing off a pic of her kid going to kindergarten.
It's not pretty. I bought it used on Craig's List and had it converted from gas to propane. But it works, and it's great because of that!
Beside the obvious reasons for needing a dryer when we have a baby (tons of laundry, especially if we do cloth diapers), there's that small piece about our small house, in which every space does "double duty". Those cute nursery photos? In the space that houses our drying racks. This space, which is in our bedroom, has actually been doing quadruple duty lately: drying area, nursery, TV watching area, sewing area. To make room for a baby, we had to get rid of the racks. The TV will have to find a new home, and the sewing can go back in storage - I rarely do any anyway.
Ironically, I'm happily folding my 1st load, gushing about how domestic it makes me feel, and my husband starts talking about global warming and how much more propane we are going to be using. I just stopped and laughed. Me ... the world's worst housewife ... you are interrupting my rare domestic moment to talk about global warming? If you know what's good for you, lovey, you'll stay out of my Martha-Stewart-way. I guarrantee that any moment now, the bug will leave me, and laundry and dishes will pile up in their usual way.
In the meantime, I feel like June Cleaver, and I'm loving it!

I actually like doing laundry. Is that weird? I love clean folded towels. I love the smell of fresh clean sheets, and I use unscented laundry soap.
Go ahead and channel that inner Martha - you're nesting!
I like doing laundry too, I use a line for 3/4ths of my laundry and the dryer for the rest. But, I know I'll be really grateful for the dryer when baby comes.
Enjoy the nesting, and remind him you've built up some credit... :)
Oh, you are June Cleaver and I am finally getting around to responding to emails. Sorry it has taken me so long but I definitely interested in your midwifery advice.
Could you email me at m.r.vaughn78 at gmail dot com?
