Done! ... or, I Can't Believe My Husband Hasn't Kicked Me Out Yet

I just sent off our profile to our adoption agency. Come Monday, we will be officially "waiting". Funny, with all the waits involved with infertility, I am very excited to be waiting again. Our agency is small, with 10-15 prospective adoptive couples at a time, which means we are all shown to every woman looking for an adoptive family for her baby. They do about 30 adoptions a year, and the wait time is generally about 6 months. Small, intimate, but quick. A really nice combination.

I just about drove S crazy with the profile. He is the writer in the family, I am more visual. I can tell the difference between 10 pictures that all look the same. He can sit down at the computer for an hour and write the most beautiful essay. I did most of the work on the profile, constantly badgering him to help me with the writing, or sit for a few more photos. (It's amazing how many photos you have that are actually quite crappy when you are trying to present your best, but your natural best. Ironic) Meanwhile he was working a lot, dealing with his alcoholic dad next door, and having to put up with my profile obsession. In the end, I took him out to dinner and gave him a gift card to say, "thanks for putting up with me."

The format was a 24 page portfolio, 1/2 photos, 1/2 narrative. It turned out really nice. The file became too big for my older computer, and it would freeze or shut down about every 5 minutes. I spent the final day about going insane. 7 hours to do a 2 hour job. Again, S came to the rescue, showing me my husband will be there when I truly need him! ;-)

I think it turned out great! Here are my favorite photos of our house.

Good job getting it all done! I know what you mean when you say you are happy to be waiting again...hang on to that feeling!!

Our agency is small too, but they still do the "child you can parent" form where you basically specify what you will or won't consider. Just curious, how does your agency deal with the varying openness levels and preferences people have?

Beautiful pictures! The light is really nice in both.

Here's hoping your wait is short!

Melba,
I think that we are shown to everyone, and if a mother wants to meet us, then the agency calls and goes through the situation with us. If it is a situation other than an anticipated healthy baby with minimal exposures in utero, then they share as much info with us as possible up front (maybe before the profiles are shown???). Also, with just 10-15 active couples at a time, they have a good sense of everyone. That is my impression, but I should clarify it with them - we've done the "stream line" method, because of our experience with Baby Bird.
