Last night I bought a trip to the Bahamas.
At least I hope we got the trip.
S and I and my dear colleague (who is always the life of the party, and put a glass of wine into both of us and a trip to the Bahamas sounded like a great idea) went to the annual auction for my midwifery school. I had wisely checked out the auction catalog beforehand and knew what I wanted -- most of it practical baby stuff (Poppy at Forcing Seeds called it right on when she said I am nesting. That is totally what is happening!). In the silent auction I got all the great stuff I wanted, including an awesome baby carrier called an Ergo, a signed "baby journal" by the great Washington artist Nikki McClure, 4 signed Nikki McClure prints for the nursery and my office, and a Salish indian medallion.
And then the live auction started ...
The trip is for 4 couples for a week, valued at $4000, in a private house on the beach. "Enjoy meals, snorkeling, kayaking, the use of a car, guided tours, and an unpopulated beach. The homeowner will act as host and hostess. Fun guaranteed!" My friend and I said we wouldn't go over $2000 (which, remember, is $500 per couple for a week on the beach in the Bahamas), and it sold to the other party for $2200. We spent the rest of the night kicking ourselves, so at the end of the auction we asked if we could match the winning bid to get our own week there. They are checking with the home owner, but think it should be ok.
So, in October or November, hopefully we are going to the Bahamas! Exciting! With 6 months notice, we should be able to get some pretty good plane fares.
PS - a big shout out of congratulations to Melba, who is now "Mamma Melba"! Go say congratulations to her over at Our Journey to Parenthood.

I also want to get the ergo baby carrier. Hope you get to use it before me and then you can let me know whether you like it :)
oooh, I love Nikki McClure, so cool you got prints!
Airfare is so cheap right now, if you get the place, buy it asap!
Hello,
Yes, we have been blessed with the most joyful, spirited, little girl. If you've read through the previous posts of my blog, you know that she was a BIG QUICK surprise. We had five days to get ready for her.
She is eight weeks old now, and I can scantly remember life before her.
I feel your pain with infertility. I have so much to say on that front. It's a hard journey.
Let's keep in touch. Your baby will come soon. But I know the wait is excruciating at times.
Much love,
Nichole
