Things That Go Bump in the Night

It's 5 AM in the Great Northwest, and I've been up since 2. I'm working on (and think I may have finished) our photo collage for our "Dear Birthmother" letter. Tomorrow (Today, I mean Saturday) S and I will write our letter. Of course I have been thinking about it non-stop for days, but this will be the 1st chance for us to sit together and write it. It's exciting to see S reading more about adoption, absorbing the information, getting ready. We both feel nervous, a little uncertain, and definitely excited. I bought baby clothes. Just a couple of cute little girly newborn onesies and a little pair of shoes. I pick them up several times a day. I am already in love with my potential baby - whether it is this one due in April, or another baby. I am so ready to have one in my arms. I think this is the 1st time I've let myself truly feel the ache and want for a baby. My baby.

But, rest assured, I am still staying cautious about the mother due in April. If it is the right situation, we will all know, and things will flow. If it is not, then I know my child will come.

So, what's going bump in the night is the snow sliding off my roof. It snowed last night! First snow of the season, about 6 inches so far (was 4 inches when I woke up at 2). NOW I can begin decorating for Christmas, because the unseasonally warm weather made it feel very un-Christmas-y. But snow....ah snow.

Last year was a La Nina year, and we got hit hard. Usually it snows a few inches, stays a few days maybe a week, then rains and it's gone. This happens several times in the winter. All the joy, none of the hassle. Last year it started snowing on Christmas and stopped in April. 120+ days of snow on the ground. We have a 1/4 mile long gravel driveway that at one point had 3 feet of snow. We had to have it professionally plowed 3 times, and even with that I had to hike out to the road for a while because I wouldn't risk getting my car up to the house. (BTW, have I ever told you how much I LOVE my Subi - with AWD and fat studded tires we can go most anywhere). We are praying this winter is a normal one - rainy and dark with just enough snow to love it.

I also want to thank everyone for their support and enthusiasm. It is truly hearwarming. It's so nice to share the excitement and hope!

Today I am grateful for:
* SNOW!
* my friends who have adopted, who are sharing their great stories and support
* the weekend!
* my on-line buddies :-)
* my husband - I just love him to pieces

We got a little snow too! Doesn't look like it's sticking around this morning, but more may be coming. :)

I'm so excited for you. When do you meet the birth mother? How wonderful to get to think about your future and all the things to come.

Doesn't the snow seem to cleanse the soul? I love it too. Good luck with your letter!
