Now on to business.:-) We have our postplacement homestudy visit scheduled for September 12th. Just 8 days away. After our homestudy is completed, we'll send it to the agency, and then they'll tell us what happens next for finalization. We had been hoping to finalize before S goes back to work the beginning of October, but it doesn't look like it will happen that quickly. Just trying to avoid him having to take the time off of work, but really, when you've taken 12 weeks unpaid, what's another 2 days? We can finalize over the phone, but would prefer to go to court and have the experience in person. Plus we can have a visit with Pinecone's birthparents at that time too. Because of the 5-1/2 hour drive (made into 7 probably with a baby), it's really a 2 day trip.
But I'm getting ahead of myself...
We have a lot of things to do around here before the homestudy, so the next week will be busy. I'm naturally a messy person, and so is S, and so are our dogs. The cat is mildly messy, and really Pinecone is the only neat one in the house. Add tons of spiders spinning their webs faster than I can keep up with, outdoor debris floating in through open doors or being tracked in by dirty dogs, and my recent inability to get ANYTHING done due to this baby business, and we've got a lot of work to do to make the place look presentable to a social worker. Oh, and I do live in the country, so there's all the yard junk. Our 1st homestudy, we lucked out. There was 3 feet of snow on the ground so we didn't have to pick up the yard.
But it's not the cleaning, it's the organizing that's the big chore. We are slowly dealing with one corner at a time. I realize this all doesn't HAVE to be done for the homestudy, but S doesn't realize that, and I figure this is our big chance to get things in order. I can only get things done after PC goes to bed, so I'm usually up late. Next on the list to do: sort through the pile of papers in the living room, put away announcements and thank you notes (I am finally caught up - yay!), and clean under the sink.
Yes, I know the SW is not going to check under the sink, but it is driving me crazy.

Good luck!!!
And, I agree, any excuse to motivate for a big clean/reorg. is good!
It sounds like you're living in my house! We are also messy by nature, and I spend a lot of time/energy worrying about how this place looks. I just feel so much better when it's presentably clean, but keeping up with that level does NOT come naturally to me, and comes even less naturally to my DH.
Good luck with the PP visit, and getting it all done. Our first visit is this coming Tuesday, so we're in the same boat. Plus...I start back to school this coming week, so it will be a whirlwind around here.
Melba
P.S. She is adorable and getting so much bigger!!
I just found your blog through another blogger friend and LOVE the fact that you are doing adoptive breastfeeding! What a wonderful gift! Please know that the amount you get when you pump (and yes, you need to be pumping more than 4 times a day if your not nursing or using the SNS during her other feedings) is NOWHERE NEAR what your adorable little Pinecone can transfer from your breast! Here are some great resources if you haven't already checked them out: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/adopt/index.html
And please feel free to ask me any questions- I have been breastfeeding my daughter (bio daughter) for over a year now, and am training to become a doula which requires a LC license.
Hmmm - sounds like you might be "nesting" a bit. Anyway, a big clean really is best to do now, before she starts getting about on her own, so why not?
Hope all goes well with the long drive - worth it for the thrill of everything being final!
