Big Smiles and a Coo

Pinecone is 8 weeks old today. Time seems to be moving really fast and at the same time in slow motion. She is now starting to smile purposefully -- she looks at us and gives us a big smile. Or we tweek her nose or play with her fingers and she gives us a big smile. She still does the little smiles on her own that are part of her own little world, but it is really cool to have her intentionally smile at us. And last night, she gave us her first real "coo". It was heartbreakingly sweet. I can't wait to hear it again.

I am making some breastmilk. Not as much as I'd hoped, but I haven't been super committed to pumping. I pump about 4 times a day instead of the recommended 8. But I make 1/4 to 1 ounce at a time, and considering that I didn't give birth to her, I think that's pretty cool. My huge supply of frozen breastmilk is about gone, and we've started feeding her formula about 1/2 the time. She did fine on it the first couple of days, then on the 3rd day, at 4 AM, she awoke in real pain from digesting the formula. It was the first time she'd cried from pain and it was so sad. We did our best to comfort her, and eventually the pain passed and she fell back asleep. Since then, we've been putting probiotics in with her formula and she hasn't had any more troubles, so hopefully that is the magic ticket.

And now, some photos .....

Pinecone in her bassinette, looking at her butterfly.

Remember all my anguish about the photos of the nursery for our profile? Well here's the real deal.

"Ooooh, I like that!" Hanging out with these hangy-things always brings lots of smiles, but I can't seem to capture them on photo!

Those first smiles and babble are THE BEST!! Her room is gorgeous, I just love it!

Can I be nosy and ask which probiotics you're putting in her formula, and how you're doing that?

Melba,
I am using the brand "Flora", "Infant's Probiotic". The bottle also says "Udo's Choice" on the label, whoever Udo is??? I got it at a local health food store.

A daily dose is 1/2 tsp, so I mix 1/8 tsp in with each serving of formula, as PC takes about 4 servings a day of formula. It really seems to be helping.

The whole breastmilk thing is amazing! Even if it's just a bit, it seems so incredible to be able to make it happen at all!

Enjoy those early smiles - I love those toothless gummy happy looks!
