We're Under Attack!

My house is currently under attack from a Flicker on steriods. This Flicker is a woodpecker, but it's not after my succulent cedar siding, because they actually eat insects. Usually they are found picking bugs out of the grass.

Now I live in the country, which means several times a year, there are hatches of different bugs that seem to take over the outside of the house (and try to take over the inside, but we usually can keep that under wraps): big black ants, flying ants, termites, caddis flies (who have been OUT OF CONTROL this year). But it's late October, and we've had some freezing nights, and there are no bugs on the side of my house.

And yet, this Flicker travels around my house, pecking and squacking (who knew that's what they sound like???) in different places. He was here Tuesday, and I eventually scared him off. Now he's back...what's up?

Today I am grateful for:
* a strong, healthy body
* a cozy fire on a mellow day

What I am doing to take care of myself:
* went to the gym this morning
* I have a date with my novel this afternoon

Silly woodpecker. I would think he creates lots of noise.

hey evergreen,

There is only one sac and two fetuses within it. So they are identical twins... which is a little scary

Oh, am I jealous of your fireplace!

The only infestation we had at our place this year was flies. Mostly barn flies I think, although we have no livestock. They seemed particularly attracted to a tree just outside the kitchen window and it sounded like a beehive every time we walked past. I hope your Flicker heads to some trees and leaves the siding alone soon.
