Picture This
I'd just gotten Pinecone down for her morning nap. She'd fallen asleep while nursing, as usual, and awoke briefly as I disengaged her. Once I put her down in the co-sleeper, she conked out again. I came downstairs and realized I'd forgotten to turn on her white noise: the fan and CD with ribbeting frogs and river. Remember the bedroom is a loft, and the sound from downstairs travels up the walls, over the vaulted ceiling, and delivers itself amplified right into the bed. So white noise is a must if I want to do anything other than just sit down here and breathe. I creep upstairs and start crawling around the room. Pinecone is easily distracted from sleep by Mom and Dad, and if she saw me, she'd wake full up and want to play. The sides of the co-sleeper are covered in fabric, so if I stay low I can't see her and she can't see me. So I'm crawling around the bedroom. I turn on the CD player by the bed. There are stirs in the co-sleeper: PC is thinking, "What's going on out there? Did I hear the tiniest noise that could rescue me from a nap?" I freeze, wait. When things are quiet in there, I crawl over to the fan and flip the switch, then start crawling toward the top of the stairs. I look back over my shoulder, and there is this little face peering over the top, looking at me with wide eyes. We share a moment of surprise and smiles, then I continue to crawl to the stairs and disappear, leaving PC to think, "So that's what she does when I'm alseep."

OMG! That's hilarious!! The things we'll do to keep them sleeping! :)
This was particularly funny for me -- who has just disengaged z about four times in order to get a long consolidated nap -- such a rarity -- and I expect to walk past the room and get the wide-eyed routine -- I keep creeping back there and avoiding the squeaky floorboard - -just to see.
:)
P
This gave me a good laugh...thanks!
That's so funny. :)
Too funny! It brings to mind Rachel pushing down her crib bumper to peer out at me while I was trying to quietly put clothing away one night when she was very young:)...Hugs, Lori...
haha...that is hilarious. I'm picturing the whole thing in my head and it makes me laugh. been there, done that, Mama's do what we gotta do:)
Heh heh heh, oh that's funny!
Sorry about my delay in responding to your baby monitor questions. We couldn't find a monitor as such that had a long enough range so we went with a two-way radio set that has a monitor function. I've only used it a few times as I've managed to time chores for when she's awake and comes with me, or when J is home from work and can take care of her.
When I have used it it doesn't seem to pick up her babbling, but will pick up the fussiness that comes before the crying. I think it will work for us when I need to use it more this summer, but I can't totally vouch for it yet.
Oh, and knowing that Pinecone is 16.5lbs at 9 months makes me feel better about B's weight, as long as she keeps gaining.
