Ski Bunny and Sweet Potatoes

First, full disclosure. I am cheating right now. Normally at this time, Pinecone and I are having fun playing on the floor, "reading" books, stretching and making faces at each other. Today, instead, I plopped her in her little chair in front of the fire for some fire-gazing. I will have to spend her morning nap time de-skunking one of the dogs, so I have to steal my "me-time" where I can.

Friday, we went up to the local ski area and hit the slopes. It's been about 25 years since I've been on skis, and 5 for S. But my cousin, who is a world-famous extreme skier, was in town on his annual tour of small ski areas, so we were inspired to go up. S played hooky from work, we bundled up the little one, and had a blast. One of my friends works there, with her 4 month old (one of PC's "milk brothers") and she loaded him in her front pack and skied with him. We weren't up for that, but maybe next time. And there will definitely be a next time. It was SO FUN! Yes, skiing was fun. But great company, a spontaneous outing, playing hooky, doing something JUST FOR FUN made it all the better. It's so rare we do that anymore.

Here's the family -- note S hitting the slopes with diaper bag in hand!

Then last night. while eating our sweet potatoes, PC was watching very intently. So I macerated some up, and fed it to her on my finger. She liked it! First food! This is not how I'd planned her first meal, but like everything else in parenting (& becoming a parent!) it happened in it's own way, not how I'd planned. When we get back from the holidays, we'll try some more.

Tomorrow we are off to visit family in Colorado for a week. I am nearly sick with longing for my sister to meet Pinecone, so I am really really looking forward to this trip. Merry Christmas everyone!

Sounds like a perfect introduction to food and skiing! My daughter was fascinated by food early on, and would much rather have had a bit of mushed grown-up dinner than the rice gruel mixed with breast milk that was "supposed" to be her first food. Can't say I blamed her.

Pinecone's cute as a button, too!
