Our 8 little girls arrived yesterday. 4 Buff Orphingtons and 4 Barred Rocks. All are doing great and are really vigorous. Pics coming soon!
And my 21,000 buzzing beauties arrived about 6 weeks ago, but I haven't had a chance to download pictures, so haven't posted about my honey bees. They also are doing great. Again, pics coming soon!
I doubled our garden growing space from last year (which was double our previous space), and have some things planted: potatoes, onions, peas, broccoli, garlic, beets, carrots, corn, basil, tomatillos and tomatoes. Oh, I guess I have a lot planted now. I just see the seedlings and seed packets still waiting to go out and feel behind, but I guess really I am doing pretty well!
It has been a super busy spring (yes, our spring only started a month ago....).

We've got pretty much all our planting done. I'm trying to decide if I want a few more potatoes. We have some "volunteers" from potatoes that didn't get harvested last year and that might be enough for us. I'd like to eventually have a large enough garden that we can supply most of our own veggies (frozen or canned) well into the winter, but we won't be doing that this year.
I did buy a seeder though and that helped me with a LOT of the planting. "In one continuous operation it opens the soil, plants the seed at the chosen interval, covers the seed with soil and then tamps it. At the same time, the row marker is marking the next row." You push it and it's frickin' awesome.
One of our hens has gone broody and I'm hoping we'll get some chicks in the next few weeks. We did have another hen go broody but none of her eggs hatched. I wasn't too disappointed as she would have bred with either her father or her brother. The current broody one will have bred with her adopted son (she sits on anyone's eggs) which in the human world would be horrifying, but in my chicken coop isn't an issue.
How will you harvest your honey? Do you process it yourself or take it somewhere else?
Hello! I know you don't know me, but we've got something in common. I got your blog address off the Stirrup Queen's blogroll and was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me help a couple who is trying to add a little one to their family. We're holding a silent auction for them this weekend (Friday and Saturday) on goteamwitt.blogspot.com and need help getting the word out! We would love it if you would spread the word via social media or here on your blog. Additionally, we are always looking for more donations to auction off, so if you or someone you know might be interested in making a donation, all the information is under the donate tab. If you have any questions or would be willing to post a pre-written blog post about the auction and the sponsored couple, please contact Kristin at goteamwitt@gmail.com Thanks in advance for taking the time to consider this!
Love Always,
Jessica Nan
exciting! i went to honeybee lecture at my Master Gardener potuck the other night. It was really interesting.
I have a tiny garden. I'm much more a flower person. I've got 2 kinds of kholrabhi, 2 kinds of radishes, beets, volunteer brussel spouts, and i think I stuck some leeks in there! I'm terrible at spacing. I've got tomatoes and herbs in pots, too.
Enjoy your garden!
